One only has to listen to the raw truth in Kevin Thomas鈥檚 music to be blindsided by the fact that he has only been pursuing his dream for two years.
鈥淚 guess this all started when Mark Liggett (Mountain Road Records) sat down together and talked about the artists that followed me onstage one night,鈥 said Thomas. 鈥淗e never saw me perform, and we just sat, and he would ask me my opinion on artists as they performed. I鈥檓 not the kind of person that sugar coats anything, so I gave him my absolute honest opinions, both good and bad. I guess he liked the fact that I was straightforward and didn鈥檛 feed him a bunch of bull. Afterwards he asked for my business card, and I didn鈥檛 have any, so I gave him my email.
鈥淚t was about a month later when he emailed me,鈥 said Thomas. 鈥淗e had never heard me sing,鈥 said Thomas. 鈥淗e invited me up to his studio in Cincinnati. He said if I was willing that he wanted me to come up and hang out a bit and talk more. He set up a co-write with a guy named Joe Jordan a label mate, who has since become a good buddy of mine. That day we co-wrote some music and all got to know one another more. For about a year, Mark worked with me. Each month I would go up to Ohio and write with Joe and other people. I would show every time and prove that I was willing to put in the work. He worked up some promo stuff for me and never charged me anything; he really believes in me, and that is something that truly matters to me.鈥
Thomas says that he remembers what Liggett told him in the beginning.
鈥淗e said 鈥業鈥檓 willing to help you if you鈥檙e willing to learn,鈥 鈥 said Thomas. 鈥淚 learned how to do social media from him and be consistent and put in the work. It takes consistency. You have to have a good work ethic in this business or no matter how much talent you have, you won鈥檛 make it to where you want to be. It鈥檚 a cutthroat business. I was just talking with my girlfriend, Abby, and we figured I drive 1,000 to 1,500 miles a week doing this.鈥
When talking about where he sees himself in a year, Thomas just smiled and said, 鈥淚 have always loved the Charlie Daniels Band. I would love to be touring with them and opening for them. My buddy Eric is now the lead singer for the Charlie Daniels Legacy Band. Of course, without Charlie, it isn鈥檛 the same, but it is so good. It鈥檚 a legacy thing now, they tour and play the music that people remember and love.鈥
Thomas had one thing to say to those that support him.
鈥淚 really care about the people,鈥 said Thomas. 鈥淚 would much rather have a few people listen to my music a million times than a million people listen to it once. It is an honor to look out in the crowd and see people smile as they listen and sing along to my songs. I am truly blessed.鈥
