The first official Fourth of July celebration at the Winding Stairs has come and gone. We at the Macon County Times want to congratulate everyone involved in making this happen, and send out a very special thanks to Mayor Tony Day, Dale Hix (for funding the celebration), and the Lafayette Fire Department for keeping things running smooth and safe for everyone to enjoy. This was an amazing first year with nearly one hour of lights in the sky. Mayor Day says he has hopes of it growing even bigger next year. Thank you to all that came out and enjoyed the celebration in a family-oriented way. See you next year!

The rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there.
