The Urban Services Council, which typically meets once a year, has recommended a tax levy to the county commission.
The council consists of three commission members who reside in the Urban Services District. The three review and amend the operations budget for the urban residents and make recommendations to the full commission for the budget and tax levy for each fiscal year.
This year鈥檚 council members are Bubba Gregory, Council Chairman, and Lonnie Taylor, Council Vice-Chairman, both from District 4 and Mark Presley, Council Secretary, from District 1. In a June 16 meeting, a unanimous decision was made to retain current leadership.
The proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year for Urban Services has favorable recommendations from the Council and the Budget and Finance Committee and was presented to the full commission on Monday, June 23.
The budget includes funding for a chief鈥檚 position with the Sheriff鈥檚 Department and for three, instead of four, deputies.
鈥淲e (Urban Services) are also paying for a police vehicle out of this year鈥檚 budget,鈥 said Gregory. 鈥淣ext year, Fund 101, should have to pay for two vehicles.鈥
Expressing concern about a decreasing fund balance for Urban Services, Gregory told the council he would call a meeting in January or February of next year to review the budget and fund balance.
The Urban Services tax levy for 2025-2026 fiscal year is expected to remain the same as last year at $0.6731 per $100 of taxable property. The urban services tax levy is used to fund services within the urban district of Trousdale County. The rate is part of the total combined tax rate of the county that will be determined when the county commission approves the full budget that was presented to them on June 23.
The commission will meet for a special meeting called on Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hartsville-Trousdale County Courthouse, 200 E. Main St. The agenda will include the FY26 Budget Ordinances concerning General Appropriations, County Tax Levy, Urban Services Appropriations, and the Urban Services Tax Levy.
