Inclement weather may have delayed the start of the 2025 Downtown Sound summer music festival series by one day, but music lovers turned out in a big way on Friday, May 9 to hear the local band, The Badger Brothers (formerly the Bluegrassholes).
Set up in historic Hartsville, Downtown Sound is organized by Mike Potts and sponsored by the Hartsville Rotary Club and local premier sponsors and businesses.
鈥淥rganizing and setting up for these events is hard work, but it is so worth it,鈥 said Potts. 鈥淚 love seeing the community come together and enjoying the music and each other.鈥 Event goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and invite their friends and family to attend.
The concert stage is set up on Court Street in Hartsville, with food and vendors set up on Foxall Street. Food trucks and vendors will be open for business from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and local coffee shops are near the concert area. The concerts begin at 6 p.m.
鈥淥ur concert line up this year is huge,鈥 said Potts. 鈥淭he Woodard Family (Southern Gospel and Bluegrass) takes the stage on Thursday, June 12. We have the Luggnutts (Bluegrass style music) scheduled for July 10 and The Scarecrows (Southern Rock and Country) on Aug. 14. On Sept. 4 at the Trousdale County Fair, the band Double Take (Southern Rock and Country) will perform.鈥
While the summer concert series is free to the public, there are costs associated with the series. The Rotary depends on additional sponsors for each concert. Besides the Rotary Club, the first concert of the summer was sponsored by Mr. Robert Thurman & Family, Betty Burch with Novus Home Mortgage, Dahl Concrete & Epoxy, Bill Parsley, Maples Realty & Auction Co. and 1st National Bank. Food vendors at the event included Rocky Top Dog Stop, Miss Makinna鈥檚 Kitchen, Hartsville Snow and Shrimp Boil Babes.
