Online tree reservations for the 11th annual Tennessee Tree Day event are currently open to the public.
Residents across Tennessee are encouraged to reserve native trees to plant at their homes, farms and their communities during the event, which will take place March 15.
The Tennessee Environmental Council, which organizes the event, says supplies are limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis so reserving a tree soon can ensure better selections available. Reservations are open now through March 2.
Participants may choose from among 165 locations across Tennessee to pick up their trees on the weekend of March 15. Registration online is required and participants choose their pick-up location and times.
TEC requests a donation for every tree reserved and says scholarships are available for participants who cannot afford to make a donation.
Wilson County residents have two pick-up locations to choose from. Cedars of Lebanon State Park at 328 Cedar Forest Road in Lebanon and City of Mt. Juliet Public Works at 115 Clemmons Road in Mt. Juliet.
More than a dozen native trees are available according to TEC, including flowering dogwood, eastern redbud, wild plum, elderberry, pecan and white oak.
鈥淧lanting native trees with friends and family for Tennessee Tree Day is a meaningful and rewarding activity that brings people together every year, and helps our environment and communities in many ways,鈥 Heather Slayton, Tennessee State Forester said. 鈥淭ennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry is honored to play an important role in this statewide event every year, by providing thousands of high-quality seedlings from our East Tennessee Nursery.鈥
According to TEC, every year Tree Day involves thousands of volunteers who plant trees across their homes, farms and communities.
鈥淓ven though we鈥檝e planted our first million, we鈥檙e not stopping here because every year presents a new opportunity to replenish our vital tree canopy,鈥 Jeffrey Barrie, Tennessee Environmental Council CEO, said.
Tennessee Division of Forestry, Atmos Energy, National Wildlife Federation, UT Extension, Tractor Supply Company Foundation, LKQ Foundation, Nissan, LP Foundation, TVA and more support the event each year.
